Friends, I learned how to make herbal electuaries at the Community Herbalist Retreat that I attended this weekend. Electuaries are new to me, but I learned that they are an ancient way to prepare herbs for medicinal purposes. An electuary combines the beneficial properties of honey with the qualities of the powdered herbs contained within. Since honey is a preservative, electuaries are stable for six months to a year. The beautiful violet colored electuary pictured here contains blueberry and elderberry, both high in antioxidants, along with ginger and peppermint which aid in digestion.
